Safety Rules and Policies Guide (Spanish)

Below is an example of a standard safety policy:

[Company Name] has established these safety rules and policies to protect employees against injury. Each department or supervisor may have additional safety rules and policies specific to their operations. In addition to following these rules, employees should exercise sound judgment and work in a manner that will not endanger themselves or their coworkers. Employees who violate these safety rules and polices may be subject to disciplinary action or discharge. Employees will be notified within five working days of what action will be taken.

  • Injuries must be reported to your supervisor immediately, no matter how slight.
  • Any unsafe practices or hazards must be reported to your supervisor immediately.
  • Learn how to perform job duties safety before beginning. If there are questions, talk with your supervisor directly.
  • Work at a safe speed. Don't endanger yourself or others by hurrying recklessly.
  • Horseplay and practical jokes can be dangerous and are not permitted in the workplace. Anyone involved in such practices could be subject to sever discipline or dismissal.
  • Keeping the work area clean and organized is every employee's responsibility. Keep stairways, passageways, exits, and sidewalks clean and clear of obstructions.
  • Know the location and proper use of emergency exits and fire extinguishers.
  • Know the location and proper use of first aid kits and eyewash equipment. For chemical hazards, know the location of emergency showers or a dependable water/rinse supply and the location of MSDS for hazardous chemicals.
  • People under the influence of restricted drugs or intoxicants shall not be permitted near company property.
  • Individuals who are taking medicines that may cause any type of work impairment must report it to their supervisors for consideration and evaluation.
  • Smoking and eating, as well as the storage of personal items, are only permitted in designated areas.
  • Cover or protect all floor openings with labeled coverings or guardrails.
  • Treat all electrical service wires as live wires. Do not touch exposed wires and report them immediately to your supervisor. Report all damaged electrical tools and cords immediately.
  • Handle all water, steam, and air lines with care.
  • Hands, clothes, and hair must be clean unless specific work tasks make it impossible.
  • Loose-fitting clothing, jewelry, and untied long hair are not permitted in designated hazardous-machinery areas.
  • Do not operate, adjust, repair, or meddle with equipment on which you have not been trained or authorized to work. Never oil, adjust, fuel, or repair machinery while it's running.
  • Shut off, padlock, and tagout the electrical controls of machinery while being repaired or serviced.
  • Never operate equipment with safety guards removed or safety devices inactivated. Never attempt to circumvent or defeat such mechanisms.
  • Check all tools before use and report any problems to your supervisor. Do not use defective or damaged tools or equipment.
  • Personal protective equipment use is required where posted. Safety glasses, with side shields, are required at all times in the shop and during all debris-producing operations.
  • Substantial footwear is required by OSHA. Employees may be required to wear safety shoes. No open-toed shoes are permitted.
  • Always wear a seatbelt when operating or riding in a vehicle.

Back Safety

  • Pre-plan lifts to minimize distances and incorporate a two-man rule, if required. Know your limits.
  • Use mechanical lifting devices or aids, such as forklifts and dollies, whenever possible for heavy/bulky loads.
  • When lifting, maintain a good grip, keep legs at shoulder width, keep the load close to your body, keep your back straight and upright, and lift slowly using your arms and legs for lifting and turning.

[Company Name] provides temporary modified-duty jobs for all employees who are injured on the job. All temporary modified-duty jobs will begin as soon as the attending physician releases the affected employee to return to work with restrictions/limitations. All temporary modified-duty jobs will comply fully with all physical restrictions or limitations stipulated by the attending physician.
